Jenna Bush Hager from TODAY admits she ONCE DISOWNED her powerful father and ran away from home over a single act he did to her boyfriend.

Jenna Bush Hager has never shied away from sharing personal and often humorous anecdotes from her life,

and her latest revelation about her high school boyfriend’s bold nickname for her father, former President George W. Bush, had everyone in stitches.

During a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, the talk show host opened up about a moment from her teenage years that left her father visibly flustered.

The Bold Nickname That Caught Everyone Off Guard

While chatting with NBC correspondent Willie Geist, Bush Hager, 43, recalled an amusing yet awkward memory from her high school dating years.

She revealed that one of her past boyfriends once referred to her father as “Big George.”

“I had a boyfriend in high school who called my dad ‘Big George’ once,” she shared with a laugh.

Geist was taken aback by the audacity of the remark, quickly asking, “He did? How long did that last?”

Bush Hager admitted that despite the questionable choice of words, the relationship lasted longer than one might expect.

“He lasted a long time because he was handsome,” she admitted, joking about how youthful charm and good looks might have helped smooth over the situation. However, she also noted that, in the moment, she knew it wasn’t going to go over well.

“You know when you’re in those moments—it only works when you’re young, because when you’re in those moments, you’re like, ‘Oh God, this is not good.’ But you can somewhat brush it over.”

George W. Bush’s Priceless Reaction

As expected, the former president did not take the nickname lightly. According to Bush Hager, her father’s face “turned red” upon hearing it. Given his status at the time, the reaction wasn’t surprising.

Geist pointed out the added layer of awkwardness, reminding her that Bush was already holding a significant political position during this interaction.

“Your dad was also governor at that time,” Geist noted. “He was governor of Texas, and some teenager is going, ‘What’s up, Big George?’ I’m impressed he lasted.”

Bush Hager agreed, confirming that it was not a particularly comfortable situation, but one that has made for a great story over the years.

A Look at Jenna Bush Hager’s Family Life Now

While her high school romances may not have stood the test of time, Bush Hager eventually found lasting love. She is now happily married to Henry Chase Hager, whom she met in 2004. The couple tied the knot in May 2008 at her family’s Prairie Chapel Ranch in Texas. They share three children together—daughters Mila and Poppy, and son Hal.

Bush Hager frequently shares stories about her family life, and her marriage to Henry is one that she speaks about fondly. The couple’s dynamic often provides entertainment for her audience, especially when she recounts Henry’s reactions to life’s unexpected moments.

The Baby Shower Prank That Wasn’t a Prank

Earlier this month, Bush Hager shared another hilarious moment from her personal life—this time involving her husband and the birth of one of their children. She revealed that when she went into labor, Henry initially thought she and her twin sister, Barbara Bush, were playing a prank on him.

She recalled that she had attended a SoulCycle class on the morning of her baby shower, and later that afternoon, while opening gifts, her water unexpectedly broke.

“It was at my baby shower that my water broke,” she explained.

Barbara quickly called Henry to tell him Jenna was on her way to the hospital, but his reaction was not what she expected.

“Barbara called Henry to tell him that I was going to the hospital, and he was like, ‘Those sisters who play pranks on me! I’m not falling for it.’”

It wasn’t until a trusted family friend stepped in that Henry realized the situation was real.

“Actually, Carrie, who’s one of our producers, was there, and she’s lovely, and her husband said, ‘No, Henry, I know Barbara and Jenna would act like that to you, but Carrie would never lie to me, so you need to go to the hospital.’”
