What made Michael Strahan – former NFL star and GMA host in New York – extremely embarrassed due to a live broadcast blunder?

Michael Strahan had a moment of mistaken fame on the April 2 episode of Good Morning America, and the hilarious mix-up had both viewers and guests laughing.

The longtime GMA host, 53, walked into the studio that morning to a wave of cheers and fanfare — or so he thought.

“I walked in and people were screaming ‘Michael!’” he recalled during an interview with the cast of the upcoming supernatural thriller Sinners.

“They had jackets with ‘M’ on them. I thought, ‘Wow, they really love me today!’” Strahan joked with a wide smile.

But as it turned out, the excitement wasn’t actually directed at him.

Sharing the GMA set that morning was none other than Sinners star and Hollywood heartthrob Michael B. Jordan — the real recipient of the crowd’s adoration.

Strahan recounted the realization to Jordan and fellow guests Hailee Steinfeld and director Ryan Coogler. “Then I realized you were here!” he laughed, motioning toward the Black Panther actor. “And I was like, ‘Oh… that makes more sense.’”

The friendly banter continued as Jordan reassured Strahan, telling him with a smile, “You’re getting love too, cut it out, man.” The easy chemistry between the celebrities made for a charming on-air moment that fans quickly embraced.

Jordan, Coogler, and Steinfeld were on Good Morning America to promote Sinners, which is set to hit theaters on April 18. The film, a dark, suspenseful thriller with supernatural elements, has been generating buzz, especially after the cast’s red carpet appearance in Mexico City on March 31.

Strahan, who recently returned from an extended spring break vacation with his twin daughters Isabella and Sophia, has hit the ground running. In addition to his GMA duties, he’s gearing up for another season of FOX’s NFL Sunday and continues hosting ABC’s $100,000 Pyramid. Despite the heavy workload, Strahan never misses an opportunity to share a laugh — or poke fun at himself.

Behind the humor, however, Strahan has been navigating a more serious journey in recent months. His daughter Isabella was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and has undergone chemotherapy at Duke University’s children’s hospital. The 19-year-old has since returned to her studies at the University of Southern California and even made a graceful return to modeling, appearing in a recent Kenneth Cole campaign.

Strahan credits his colleague Robin Roberts, a cancer survivor herself, with helping him find strength during the difficult period. “Robin told me something that really helped,” he shared in a recent People interview. “She said, ‘You think when you have cancer you’re going to wake up every day and think, Oh, I have cancer. But at some point, you wake up and you just live.’”

It’s a message that continues to give Strahan hope as he watches Isabella reclaim her life and independence. “I can’t wait for Isabella to get back to that point where she feels like herself again, where this doesn’t even cross her mind,” he said.

Though he’s known for his energetic personality and contagious smile, Strahan has openly admitted that behind the scenes, the journey has been emotionally taxing. “As a parent, you want to protect your child through everything, but this was something I couldn’t shield her from,” he said. “You just have to be her cheerleader — even when it’s eating you up inside.”

Strahan’s blend of humor, humility, and heart continues to make him a beloved presence on and off-screen. And while the cheers may have been for Michael B. Jordan that morning, there’s no doubt Strahan got his share of the love too.
