Netflix surprised everyone with the amount Beckham received in 2023 from his documentary, a sum that could make you live comfortably for a lifetime.

Their four-part series Beckham amassed 3.8million views in the UK alone in its launch week last October.

That made it the streaming giant’s most watched in Britain since Harry & Meghan in 2022.

New viewing data shows the streamer’s 16.7 million UK subscribers watched an average of just over two hours a day.

That is the same amount of time the average adult watches telly each day, a recent ONS study found — meaning some families only watch Netflix.

Beckham was the only documentary to make the global top ten of Netflix films and series from July to December 2023.

In the most-watched list of Netflix’s 269.6million worldwide subscribers, romcoms were mostly knocked from their usual top spot by thrillers and dramas.

Number one was fantasy drama The Witcher at 373 million hours of viewing.

French thriller Lupin followed closely behind at 273 million hours, and drama miniseries All The Light We Cannot See at 129 million hours.

Recently cancelled action-comedy series Obliterated amassed 184million hours — beating the sixth series of Black Mirror, Bridgerton’s Queen Charlotte and The Crown’s final season.

Meghan Markle’s 2011 Suits appearance was streamed for 247 million hours, compared to The Crown’s 220 million.

Reality hit Squid Game: The Challenge led the game show category with 270million hours.

But kids’ favourite Peppa Pig was knocked far down the list by a host of new shows from American channel Cocomelon.
