Mark Consuelos admits feeling deeply disappointed when he realized he had been “trapped” by Kelly Ripa when they first met. What happened?

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have been married for nearly 30 years, and their enduring love has captivated fans over the years.

On a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the couple took a trip down memory lane, reflecting on their relationship

and revealing some of the unique dynamics that have kept their marriage strong.

In a candid conversation, Kelly shared how she once employed a playful tactic to get Mark to confess his love for her first

a move that added a touch of intrigue to their already colorful love story.

The discussion about their love story began when the couple referenced an article discussing the typical timeline for men to fall in love.

According to the article, it takes the “average man a little over four weeks” to fall in love with a woman. Mark, 53, humorously responded to this information, saying, “What is love? I mean, I guess the meaning of love for men and women should and probably is naturally something different.” He added that the way love manifests for men and women can be “subtly different.”

Curious to hear Mark’s personal definition of love, Kelly, 54, pressed him further. His response was playful and heartwarming. “Love for me now is spending a quiet afternoon with you just watching me watch sports,” he joked, evoking laughter from the studio audience. But Mark also reflected on how love had evolved in their relationship. “No, I love being with my family. We didn’t have a family back then,” he said, acknowledging how their shared experiences had shaped their bond over time.

As Mark delved into his own thoughts about love, Kelly revealed that she found the concept of love to be “too complicated to define.” Instead of focusing on a specific definition, Kelly shared her deep admiration for her husband. “I’ve been in love with you since the day I met you, and beyond loving you, I really like you a lot,” she said with affection. “You’re my favorite person,” she continued, clearly expressing the admiration and warmth she feels for Mark.

However, it was Kelly’s candid revelation about the early days of their relationship that caught the most attention. She explained how she strategically made Mark confess his love first. “This is old-fashioned of me, so don’t get triggered, don’t get upset, I don’t need you to @ me. I don’t care what you think about what I think,” she prefaced with humor, knowing her comments might stir up a response. “What I think, is that men generally—and I’m going to speak in great generalizations—love the thrill of the hunt, and I certainly was not going to pursue you. I think that made me interesting to you,” Kelly explained, recalling how she played hard to get in the early stages of their romance.

Mark seemed to agree with Kelly’s perspective, adding his own insight into the dynamics of early love. “I do find that early on, whether it be a really serious relationship or early in the marriage, it always feels like someone loves the other person more,” he said, giving a nod to the common relationship dynamic of one partner expressing a deeper affection. “It’s like 65/35, or 67/43,” Mark explained, acknowledging the unequal balance of affection in the early days of love.

Kelly, however, offered a twist to this observation. Reflecting on their years together, she admitted that now she feels like she loves Mark “a little bit more,” but assured him that she was completely content with that dynamic. “That’s okay. I’m fine with that,” she said, adding with a smile, “You don’t seem to know that, so it’s good. It’s all working.” The couple’s playful banter and mutual understanding demonstrated just how much their relationship had grown over the years.

The conversation between Kelly and Mark provided fans with a heartfelt and humorous look into the foundations of their lasting love. While their journey together began with playful tactics and subtle games of love, the couple’s deep affection for each other now stands as the cornerstone of their nearly three-decade-long marriage. Through the ups and downs, Kelly and Mark have managed to nurture a relationship based on love, mutual respect, and a healthy dose of humor—a recipe for enduring happiness that continues to inspire their fans.

As they approach 30 years of marriage, Kelly and Mark’s unwavering bond serves as a testament to the power of love, humor, and a little bit of strategic mystery in building a lasting partnership.
