Riley Keough, the talented actress best known for her role in Daisy Jones & the Six,
has recently opened up about her rebellious teenage years, drawing a parallel to the rebellious phase her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley, famously went through.
Riley’s reflections on her relationship with Lisa Marie have been a central focus for her recently,
especially after helping finish her mother’s posthumous memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown,
and marking the two-year anniversary of her mother’s passing on January 12.
As Riley continues to process the loss of her mother and the memories they shared, she made a candid revelation during a January 14 appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.
In the conversation, Riley revealed an aspect of her teen years that she had never shared publicly before: her arrest.
Riley Keough Opens Up About Her Arrest at 15 or 16
During the podcast interview, Riley was asked about the similarities she saw between her own rebellious teenage years and those of her mother. Lisa Marie Presley was notorious for her wild and rebellious youth, and Riley admitted to following in her mother’s footsteps in some ways. “She had her rebellious moment and I also had that where I would sneak out and hang out with people I wasn’t allowed to, and getting arrested,” Riley confessed, adding that she had never spoken about this incident before.
Riley explained that the arrest happened when she was around 15 or 16 years old. “I’ve never said that,” she quipped, acknowledging that she was a minor at the time and didn’t get to see her mugshot. The arrest was related to a misunderstanding that led to her being charged with breaking and entering. “So it was actually, I went to a party at my friend’s house but I didn’t know that it wasn’t my friend’s house, it was a house for sale,” she recalled.
As the police arrived, most of the people at the party managed to escape, but Riley and a few others were not as lucky. “The police came and most people got away, and then about ten of us got arrested,” she explained. Riley recalled how her mother was far from pleased when she found out about the incident. “My mom was p****d,” she said with a laugh.
A Humbling Experience: Riley’s Consequences and Her Mom’s Support
The aftermath of the arrest included Riley being grounded for an extended period. In fact, her grounding even overlapped with her 15th or 16th birthday. “I was grounded for like three months,” Riley shared, noting that the grounding took place while Lisa Marie was in Las Vegas. As part of the consequences, Riley had to call her mom and ask her to come back from her trip to pick her up from prison. “I had to call her and tell her to come back from Vegas and pick me up in prison,” she recalled.
While the event was a humbling one for the young Riley, it also revealed the special dynamic between her and her mother. Despite the consequences, Lisa Marie was there for her daughter, proving that even in times of rebellion, their bond was strong.
Riley Keough and Lisa Marie Presley: A Shared Rebellious Spirit
Riley’s reflection on her arrest provides a rare glimpse into the more rebellious side of her teen years, and it highlights the similarities between her and her mother’s youth. Both women experienced moments of defiance and independence, but at the same time, both were undoubtedly shaped by the love and guidance of their families.
Interestingly, Riley’s recollections come after Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie’s mother, also opened up about Lisa Marie’s rebellious streak. In a recent discussion about her late daughter, Priscilla described Lisa Marie as “her own person,” noting that she had a “little spitfire” quality to her. She acknowledged that Lisa Marie was curious about the world and enjoyed challenging the status quo. “She seemed to like the feeling of not being normal, she wanted to be different,” Priscilla said, though she also emphasized that her daughter had “a good head on her shoulders” and was very intelligent.
The Presley Legacy and Riley’s Current Life
Riley Keough’s candid admission about her past and the recent reflection on her late mother’s rebellious years show the enduring influence of the Presley legacy. From Lisa Marie’s own tumultuous youth to Riley’s experiences, the family’s history is one marked by both rebellion and resilience.
Now, as a mother herself, Riley has taken on an “untraditional” parenting style with her daughter, Tupelo, inspired by her own experiences growing up. As Riley navigates life without her mother, the lessons learned from Lisa Marie and the shared experiences between them continue to shape her own path forward.
Though Riley has never shared her arrest story before, it’s clear that her reflections on both her and her mother’s youth have played an important role in her healing process. As she continues to honor Lisa Marie’s memory and legacy, these personal revelations offer a glimpse into the complexity of their relationship and the lasting impact of a mother’s influence.
